PETALING JAYA: Just over a month ago, canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) received news that a mother dog and her four puppies were in danger of being run over by heavy vehicles at the jetty where they had taken shelter in Port Klang.

When a volunteer went to the place to rescue the family, she found that one of the puppies had already been crushed to death.
