KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan’s decision to accept Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia into its fold is not surprising as opposition groupings are merely a marriage of convenience, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
The MCA deputy president said opposition parties only have one thing in common, which is to topple the ruling government.
“They do not talk about a common stand and cannot be bothered if each has a different political ideology,” Dr Wee, who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, told reporters after attending a networking conference for businesses from Hunan province of China and Malaysia here.
He said while Pakatan Harapan can create a new logo, it remains to be seen if the four parties will use it in the 14th general election as voters are already accustomed to the respective party logos.
“Will DAP forego its ‘rocket’ and opt for a new logo when contesting in Chinese-majority areas? They should be in a better position to answer this question,” Dr Wee said.
Citing the conflicting statements made by the leaders, Dr Wee said they are only interested in displacing Barisan Nasional.
“But can they really work together? If you ask them who is their candidate for prime minister, they say they will decide after winning the election.
“This shows that they are not interested in discussing their political ideologies and plans,” he said.
Dr Wee said Selangor DAP had announced it had disassociated itself from PAS, but they continue to rule the state together.
“Is Selangor ruled by a Pakatan Rakyat government or a Pakatan Harapan government? What logo would they be using?
“How does this government function when DAP does not work with PAS?” Dr Wee asked.
