JOHOR BARU: A policeman broke his left leg after a suspect rammed into him in a bid to evade arrest on the Pasir Gudang Highway near Permas Jaya here.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said Kpl Johar Bagini was in the midst of cutting off traffic to help a patrolling unit nab the suspect who was being chased from Jalan Perak in Pasir Gudang at 2.20pm on Sunday.
He said the 30-year-old suspect was speeding and driving recklessly on the highway when he crashed into traffic roadblock, hitting Kpl Johar.
"The suspect came to a stop only after colliding with a patrolling vehicle near the Jalan Rosmerah 2/11 exit.
"He then got down and charged towards the officer wielding an iron rod, and this forced the officer to fire a shot near his hips," Supt Jokhiri said in a statement here on Monday.
Supt Jokhiri said the suspect was finally detained following a scuffle after he ran towards the corridor of a nearby bank, adding the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
