Police nab Indonesian 'coordinator' of Feb 21 kidnapping of Kulai woman

YONG PENG: Police arrested a 39-year-old Indonesian man over the kidnapping of a housewife from Kulai on Feb 21.

The man, said to be the "coordinator" in the kidnapping, was nabbed at the Yong Peng South toll plaza in a taxi heading north at around 5.30pm on Monday.

"We believe the suspect brought the woman to Batam on a boat via an illegal route off Pengerang.

"We found a semi-automatic pistol in his pants which was loaded with three bullets and a few more bullets in his pants pocket," Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Kamarulzaman Mamat told a press conference.

Police also recovered a plastic bag with 23 bullets and a mobile phone from the suspect.

SAC Kamarulzaman said the suspect, the 19th person to be arrested in the investigations, was possibly trying to escape after news of the kidnap was reported.

He said the taxi driver was also arrested to assist in the investigations.
