BUKIT BERUNTUNG: One of the eight children who were swept away by the current while fishing in Sungai Selangor, Kampung Timah here, has been found dead.
Hulu Selangor police chief Supt R. Supramaniam said the body of Muhammad Ikhwan Mohd Ridwan, 10, was found at around 10.20am Sunday on the left bank of Sungai Selangor.
He said he believes the high-water levels caused by flooding Saturday night coasted the body to the riverside around 3km from the Search And Rescue (SAR) operations centre.
He said the body was sent to Hospital Kuala Kubu Baru for a postmortem.
“The father was able to identify the body based on clothing and some physical traits, as the victim’s face was in an unidentifiable stage,” Supt Supramaniam told reporters during a press conference at the operations centre here.
He said the SAR efforts would continue to locate the last missing victim, Muhammad Aiman Kamarul Ariffin, 12.
The search started at 9.40am and involved almost 115 people comprising police, the Fire and Rescue Department, Rela personnel and locals.
The eight children were swept away by the current while fishing on March 17. One child was located safely and five bodies recovered.
The deceased are siblings Shahrizat Abdullah, 12, and Shahrizwan, 10; Amirul Hakimi Khairul Amru, 9, Muhammad Iskandar Shah, 12, and Muhammad Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi, 12.
