PETALING JAYA: Langkawi has been recognised as one of the “top 10 hottest travel destinations of 2017” by Vogue magazine.
In its series of “2017 predictions” published at the end of last December, the popular lifestyle magazine ranked Langkawi third in its list of travel destinations this year.
“Thailand and Vietnam have traditionally stolen the spotlight in Southeast Asia, even though Malaysia’s cuisine, art, architecture, and beaches are just as fantastic. Langkawi, an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast, is about to put the country on the travel map,” wrote Jen Murphy in the article published on Dec 30.
Vogue added in its article that The St. Regis opened Malaysia's first all-suite resort in Langkawi, complete with a Bill Bensley–designed restaurant and the largest swimmable lagoon on the island.
In the introduction, the article also described Malaysia's beaches as the “new alternative to island getaways in Vietnam and Thailand”
Other countries named in the magazine's top 10 travel destinations included Georgia, Oman, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Trinidad and Tobago.
