PETALING JAYA: The Department of Statistics Malaysia has appointed Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin (pix) as its new Chief Statistician, effective Feb 14.
The 51-year-old replaces Datuk Abdul Rahman Hasan, who retired at the end of his service.
Mohd Uzir holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and has served in the public service sector as a statistician for 26 years.
“He possesses extensive experience in the economics, social and demographics sectors.
“He has also contributed his expertise at the national and international levels, including the development of indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the United Nations,” the department said in a statement Friday.
The department also pledged its commitment to continuing its transformation and providing reliable information and statistics to its users.
“Our cooperation with respondents, stakeholders, and statistics users from within the country and internationally will continue to be strengthened,” it added.
