PETALING JAYA: The start of the Year of the Rooster will be a wet one in some parts of Malaysia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
Its director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail said the Chinese New Year period falls within the north-east monsoon season, which is characterised by heavy rain spells.
“There will be rain along the coasts of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Terengganu and Pahang in the morning,” she said, adding that Kudat and Sandakan in Sabah would also experience rain in the morning.
She said that rain and thunderstorms were expected in Perak, Selangor, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, and Miri and Limbang in Sarawak in the evening.
Kudat and Sandakan in Sabah, meanwhile, would experience rain in the evening and at night.
Che Gayah said weather should not cause disruption to travelling during the Chinese New Year.
