KUALA PILAH: A woman has been fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here for deliberately leaving a three-year-old boy under her care at her home without reasonable supervision.
Judge Nariman Badruddin further ordered Shamsinar Ambia, 37, to be jailed a year if she is unable to pay the fine.
"The court also orders you to serve 240 hours of community service for the offence," she said on Wednesday.
Shamsinar was charged with leaving the boy, understood to be the son of a friend, in her rented house in Kg Parit Buluh in Tampin at 7pm on Jan 5.
The woman's two sons, aged 13 and 14, had claimed that they were at home with the toddler but ran out of the house when police arrived following a report lodged by villagers.
Shamsinar, who pleaded guilty, was charged under section 33(1)(c) of the Child Act 2001.
Offenders can be fined up to RM20,000 or jailed up to five years or fined and jailed upon conviction.
They can also be directed by the court to do community service.
