Move undermines Govt’s good work, says CCM

PETALING JAYA: The move by Perlis to table the amendments to the Administration of the Religion of Islam Enactment 2006 may set a worrying precedent which could undermine the Federal Government’s intention to resolve the controversial issue of unilateral conversion of minors.

Council of Churches of Malaysia’s (CCM) secretary-general Reverend Dr Hermen Shastri questioned the state’s move as the Federal Government had already given due consideration to the issue of unilateral conversion before it tabled the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) (Amendment) Bill 2016 on Nov 21.
