PETALING JAYA: MCA religious harmony bureau secretary Chris Daniel Wong has questioned DAP for not explaining why former DAP leader Hew Kuan Yau (pic) continues to speak at the party’s events.
Wong said that the lack of action by DAP’s leadership to disassociate the party from Hew, popularly known as “Superman”, was a sign the party condoned him, stating that “silence is akin to agreement”.
“After having resigned from the party, why are people like Hew Kuan Yau still speaking at DAP ceramah?
“Does the DAP party leadership condone his foulmouthed speaking style in these ceramah?” asked Wong in a statement on Tuesday.
He was responding to DAP’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke, who on Monday had told Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng that how DAP manages its party was none of Liang’s business.
Liang had also been questioning why Hew was allowed to speak at DAP events despite resigning from the party in July. He urged the DAP to distance itself from Hew, whose speeches were racially provocative.
“If DAP ever becomes the federal government of the day, and the people ask how they spend the national budget, perhaps they are going to reply ‘DAP does not need to explain to you’,” said Wong.
“Anthony Loke had better look back at his words and figure out if he really means what he says or is it mere rhetoric,” he added.
