Dr Noor Azlan (second from right) speaking to members of the media at a Budget 2017 analysis session in UKM on Monday.

BANGI: Public universities must rise to the challenge of becoming self-sustainable and stop relying solely on government funds to foot their annual operating costs, says Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghani.

He said the reduced allocation for public universities recently announced in Budget 2017 is part of structural reforms being advocated by the Government, which all institutions of higher learning should embrace.
