PETALING JAYA: A federal minister has hit out at former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for harping on issues relating to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6bil donation received from the Middle East.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak (pix) in a blog post on Tuesday said Muhyiddin should have realised by now that the issues could not be used to oust Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak from his position.
He said this was because Najib was still the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional had performed well in the Sarawak state election and the twin polls in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
Salleh said the Opposition was repeating the same matters because it had run out of issues to attack the Prime Minister.
"It appears that Muhyiddin is bankrupt of issues and that is why he needs to keep talking about the same matters, which are no longer of interest to Malaysians.
"When is Muhyiddin going to accept the fact that the 1MDB and the donation issues have already been clarified more than once and it is now a closed matter.
"The Opposition insists that Najib responds to the allegations against him but when he does, his replies were ignored,” Salleh said.
The Umno treasurer-general said Muhyiddin was acting in this manner to distract Malaysians from the fact that the Opposition is in a mess.
He said the sacked Umno deputy president should instead focus on his new party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
"Muhyiddin should just focus on his new party and prepare for the next general election, which will determine whether the anti-Najib propaganda will succeed or not.
"As it stands now, we do not even know whether Muhyiddin can mobilise his forces for the next election and offer a credible challenge to Umno and Barisan Nasional," said Salleh.
