KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has conducted over 50,000 searches on vessels since 2015 to curb piracy.
MMEA director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar said last year alone, there were 33,000 random searches targeted on vessels in the Malacca Straits, South China Sea and Sulu Sea.
