JOHOR BARU: As Merdeka Day draws near, palm oil industry campaigner Datuk Boon Weng Siew (pic) recalls his experience of working closely with some of the nation’s prominent leaders in the fight to achieve independence.
His strong command of both English and Chinese earned him the pivotal role of a translator between MCA founding president Tun Tan Cheng Lock and the Chinese community when he joined the party in 1951.
