Sarawak polls: All BN candidates screened by MACC, says Abang Johari

KUCHING: PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has put to rest any question about the integrity of Barisan Nasional candidates and direct candidates in the state elections.

"They were chosen as candidates based on their integrity. They have all been screened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission," he told Bernama.

Abang Johari, who is defending his Satok seat on May 7 against PKR, added that Barisan candidates and direct candidates or 'Team Adenan' were expected to not only sweep the coalition to victory but to develop Sarawak together.

On the opposition, he questioned the parties' ability to fulfill the promises in their manifesto.

"The people can see for themselves how the opposition had been bickering, such as in seat distribution," he said.

Abang Johari assured that the state government was looking into the housing needs of the middle income group, as promised by the Barisan government.

"We already have a policy for low-cost homes for the lower income group but we do not have one for the middle income," he noted.

In light of rising house prices, Abang Johari, also Housing Minister and state Tourism Minister, said a state intervention was necessary for more affordable homes costing below RM300,000 to be built for the group.

In this regard, he said, the state government was also mulling to provide finance facilities to the target group through government financial institutions. - Bernama
