Two arrested after crime spree in Kota Kinabalu


KOTA KINABALU: Police here have arrested two men aged 22 and 24 following a spate of snatch theft cases in a single day.

City police chief Asst Comm M Chandra said the two men were believed to be involved in four cases on April 11.

He said the two men were arrested at a house in Likas near here the following day and police were on the hunt for a third suspect.

Both suspects tested positive for drugs.

ACP Chandra said the string of robberies began at 5.10am when a woman lost her handbag containing a passport and handphone at the Kingfisher Plaza near here.

The thieves, who were seen in a Perodua Viva, struck again at 6.30am when they snatched a bag containing a laptop computer and handphone from a woman at Luyang.

Barely 40 minutes later, the thieves grabbed the handbag of woman at a bus stop in the downtown area here.

At 6.30pm, they grabbed a woman’s handbag containing about RM1,200 in cash at the Kepayan near here.

Initial investigations also showed that the car was registered under the name of one of the suspects.
