Student killed after Proton Saga skids and crashes on NSE

KAMPAR: A 19-year-old student was killed when the car he was travelling in skidded and crashed into a divider at KM302 of the North-South Expressway, near here.

Kampar OCPD Superintendent Ng Kong Soon said E. Mugen, from Persiaran Hock Aun, Ipoh, died while being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital following the accident at about 6pm Friday.

Supt Ng said two other people, including the driver, suffered broken arms in the incident.

"The driver, a 28-year-old road surveyor from Kuala Kangsar and a 40-year-old housewife from Batu Gajah, who was seated at the backseat, broke their right arms.

"Mugen was seated in the front passenger seat during the accident," he said.

Supt Ng said all three were heading to Ipoh when the driver lost control of the red Proton Saga.

"The car had then swerved to the left before hitting the road divider. The front part of the vehicle was also badly damaged.

"The weather was fine and that stretch of the road was straight," he added.

A post mortem on Mugen was conducted Saturday at 9am.

The incident would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving resulting in death.
