Sarawak NGO slams barring of politicians as illegal and undemocratic


KUCHING: The banning of non-Sarawakian politicians from the state for election campaigning purposes is illegal and undemocratic, said a local civil society organisation.

Rise of Sarawak Efforts (Rose) said that while it recognises that the state government has power over immigration, Section 67 of the Immigration Act prohibits barring those who want to enter the state "for the sole purpose of engaging in legitimate political activity".
