Sarawak polls: PBB to field three direct candidates in new seats

KUCHING: Sarawak Barisan Nasional will field direct candidates in three of the 11 new seats in the coming state election.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem (pic) announced on Tuesday that Miro Simuh, 40, will contest in Serembu, John Ilus, 52, in Bukit Semuja and Datuk Gerawat Gala, 59, in Mulu.

All three were PBB members who have resigned from the party in order to stand as direct candidates. Miro and Gerawat left the party with immediate effect on Tuesday while John resigned several years ago.

Adenan announced eight other candidates during the press conference at his office here.

They are Datuk Idris Buang for Muara Tuang, Awla Dris (Simunjan), Shafiee Ahmad (Daro), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya (Jemoreng), Mohd Chee Kadir (Kabong), Jefferson Jamit Unyat (Bukit Goram), Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz (Kalaka) and Datuk Ambrose Blikau (Katibas).

Abdul Wahab and Ambrose are incumbents while the rest are new faces.

Adenan also said those named as direct candidates would have to resign from their parties in order to contest.

"There is a Barisan requirement that they must resign. Then they will decide later on which component party they want to join," he said.

Other direct candidates announced earlier are Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Dr Johnichal Rating from UPP and Rosey Yunus from Teras. UPP and Teras are breakaway parties of SUPP and SPDP respectively.
