KUCHING: The designer of DAP's "Ubah" election mascot has been denied entry into Sarawak, a day after Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching was turned back from the state.
Ooi Leng Han, a party member from Selangor, was barred from entering Sarawak when he arrived at Kuching International Airport at 9.30am on Saturday.
"He is now at the airport's immigration office and will be sent back on an 8pm flight," said state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
On Friday night, Teo was deported to Kuala Lumpur shortly after arriving at Bintulu airport.
Chong condemned the barring of Teo and Ooi, calling it an abuse of the state's immigration power.
"We support immigration autonomy for Sarawak but we do not support its abuse. Sarawak's immigration autonomy is to protect Sarawakians, not the Sarawak Barisan Nasional," Chong said.
He said the banning of Teo and Ooi showed that the Chief Minister's exercise of immigration autonomy was not based on preventing religious bigots and racists from entering Sarawak but to increase Barisan's chances of winning the state election.
"Of course it will affect our campaign. That's the main purpose of banning our members," he added.
Other DAP leaders who have been banned from Sarawak include Tony Pua and Teresa Kok.
