688,766 granted citizenship since Merdeka

A TOTAL of 688,766 individuals have been granted citizenship since Independence until Jan 31, said the Home Ministry.

Of these, certificates of citizenship were granted to 69,904 Chinese, 38,024 Indonesians and 19,301 Indians, its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a written reply to Idris Ahmad (PAS-Bukit Gantang). During the same period, he added, 10,828 individuals had their citizenship revoked by the Government.
