SABAK BERNAM: Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin, who lost her legs in an accident while riding a motorcycle two months ago, has returned to school, much to the delight of her teachers and friends.
The 13-year-old girl arrived at SMK Bagan Terap in Sabak Bernam at 7am Monday accompanied by her parents and received a warm welcome upon entering the school compound.
A simple welcome ceremony also greeted the girl as students gathered for the weekly morning assembly.
Her stepfather Roslan Sardi, 40, said his daughter was happy and excited to be able to attend classes again after being away for two months.
''She was all smiles meeting her friends and teachers. There are helpers who have been arranged to help my daughter get around in school.
''We are thankful that she has been so strong and also for all the help and assistance rendered to our family all this while.
''My wife and I are really happy to see our daughter so happy today,'' he said.
On Jan 18, Nuraisyah was on her way home from school on a motorcycle with her stepsister Shamim Amira Roslan, 14, when the accident occurred at 3.30pm.
Another vehicle was believed to have brushed against their motorcycle. Siti Nuraisyah was thrown into the path of a lorry which ran over her.
Her left leg was amputated above the ankle, while her right leg was amputated below the knee.
Roslan noted that a toilet for the disabled was built at the school, while his daughter’s class has been relocated to the ground floor for her convenience.
”A new table and chair has been arranged for her, and the teachers are always ready to help her catch up in her studies.
''We are indeed grateful for all the good Samaritans who have shown up along the way,'' he said, adding that Nuraisyah started her physiotherapy sessions at the Sabak Bernam Hospital and has shown much improvement.
Nuraisyah's class teacher Mohd Zairul Salleh said he would personally guide her in her studies.
A close friend, Siti Nurfatihah Aida Abd Halim, 13, said she was overjoyed that Nuraisyah has finally returned to class after going through so much.
''I hope she will continue to be brave and I will be by her side to help her with school work.
''I will also continue to keep cheering for her,'' she added.
