Tasik Kenyir quake caused by volume of dam water

PETALING JAYA: The 2.7 magnitude earthquake at Tasik Kenyir was not a natural occurrence but an induced seismicity quite common in a large and deep artificial lake, said Meteorological Department deputy director-general Dr Mohd Rosaidi Che Abbas.

While the earthquakes in Ranau last year and the more recent one in Lahad Datu were natural occurrences, he said the tremor in Tasik Kenyir in Terengganu on Tuesday night was caused by pressure due to the volume of water in the dam.
