PETALING JAYA: As Umno deputy president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin should be helping party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his work, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic).
In a statement titled 'Tan Sri Muhyiddin diingat jangan bakar kelambu kerana marahkan nyamuk (Don't bite the hand that feeds you)' on Wednesday, Azalina said loyalty to the leadership is practised in political parties around the world, and every party leader should follow the rules and policies of his party.
"In view of recent developments, I am very disappointed with the actions of Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who once again openly criticised Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak," said Azalina.
"Differences of opinion or views should be expressed through the proper channels so that it will not lead to a split in the party," she said.
Azalina, who is also an Umno supreme council member, said Muhyiddin's actions are an example of bad leadership at the grassroots level.
"If he is not in line with what Umno has been practising, he can either resign or contest for the presidency in the next party elections," she said.
She said Muhyiddin should remember that he is still Barisan Nasional's MP for Pagoh.
"He must remember that the party has helped him a lot, and any action taken by him should not lead to weakening and breaking of the party," said Azalina.
Muhyiddin has repeatedly expressed concerns over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue over the last month.
A day before the Umno general assembly in December last year, he gave a speech to the public at a gathering at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman that was attended by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
