KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s veteran football stars, whose success story is being spotlighted in the local movie OlaBola, may not agree entirely with its plot but are nevertheless touched by the message of unity that it brings.

Directed by Chiu Keng Guan, the local production reimagines the real-life moment when Malaysia’s national football team qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games that was set to be held in Moscow. However, due to the US-led boycott of those Games in protest of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Malaysia did not attend the Games.
