PETALING JAYA: For Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, the movie Ola Bola brought back memories of the good old days when Malaysian football was at its height.

Sadly, the CIMB Group chairman said, corruption has now harmed the state of Malaysian football and, along with racism, eroded nation-building efforts.

"Just watched it; loved it! Brought back memories of being at Merdeka Stadium on that glorious night. More importantly, it was a powerful reminder of a better Malaysia back then. Corruption subsequently damaged our football. Corruption & racism has undermined our nation building. Felt very sad afterwards," Nazir said in an Instagram post.

Nazir, brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had been a strong critic of the multitude of scandals that had recently taken place.

Ola Bola, directed by Chiu Keng Guan, tells the story of a diverse group of Malaysian footballers in the 70s who worked together to chart local football history.
