Investing in people key to successful brands, says EcoWorld's Liew


PETALING JAYA: Investing in people is the main ingredient behind successful brands, said Eco World Development Group Bhd chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin.

He said this was the apparent trend seen in brands such as AirAsia Bhd which has been successful in the airline business.

Citing an example of the company which he founded, EcoWorld, Liew said he would not be successful without his team.

"Without my strong team at home and at the office I would not be here today speaking. This is the fundamental strength," he said in his talk at StarLIVE Business Series: Power Talks at Menara Star on Saturday.

He said it was people who "make up the DNA of a company and talent needs to be nurtured" as what was being done at EcoWorld.

Liew said that education was important but the willingness and passion to work was more important after a person has graduated.

He said one need not be a graduate from a foreign university to seek a better career.

"I received two offers, from Universiti Malaya and the National University of Singapore. My father said to stay in Malaysia so I took up the offer with UM," he said.

"It doesn't mean that you must be from a foreign university to advance in life. More important is a person's attitude and passion for work and life," he said.
