KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts to revive interest in the batik has resulted in a 400% increase in the number of its producers. There are 800 batik producers currently as compared to only 200 in 2012.
Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (Penyayang) chairman Nori Tun Abdullah said at one time, the batik industry was “almost forgotten”, but now batik was not only available in fabric form but also as bags, shoes, gift wrappers, decorative items and fashion accessories.
