RAUB: There will not be any cost hike in the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project despite a delay in completion of two packages of the project, said Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
Speaking after visiting the Kelau dam site, Adnan reiterated that the project would remain at RM3.93bil, an amount to be funded by the Federal Government and the Japan Bank of International Cooperation.
He said the project, which was expected to be fully operational by 2017, was now 96.7% complete.
“The Semantan intake and pumping station, as well as the twin pipelines, were completed in May this year.
“However, the raw water transfer tunnel was delayed by four months and will be ready by this week.
“Only the Kelau dam needed a further timeline extension until October next year,” he said, adding that a longer timeframe was necessary due to compliance with recommendations by the regulatory authorities such as the Occupational Safety and Health Department.
Adnan, who was accompanied by Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid, said several partial trial runs had been carried out, while a full trial could only be done upon completion of the Langat 2 water treatment plant in Selangor.
He confirmed that Pahang would honour the agreement signed in 2007 to sell raw water to Selangor at 10 sen per cubic metre.
He added that the project would be able to channel 1.89 million cubic metres of water a day to meet the needs of consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya up to 2025.
