Bosi to take on Pairin for cultural body post

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah DAP leader wants to take on Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan for the presidency of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association, a top post which he has held for more than three decades.

Kapayan assemblyman and Sabah DAP secretary Dr Edwin Bosi made the surprise announcement to challenge Pairin, who is also the community’s Huguan Siou or paramount leader.

“What I want is to revamp the role of the association,” said Dr Bosi, admitting that it would be an uphill battle.

“Winning is not the main objective,” he said, adding that there was a need for fresh leadership and direction for the association, whose members were mainly from the Kadazandusun and Murut communities.

However, the outcome of the challenge will not in any way affect Pairin’s position as Huguan Siou as this is a lifelong position that has been institutionalised.

The power and responsibility to bestow the title rests with the association, which, upon the vacancy of the office, may hold an extraordinary delegates’ conference to specifically resolve the installation of a Huguan Siou.

However, if no leader is considered worthy, the office would be left vacant until a deserving Kadazandusun leader is established.
