KOTA KINABALU: Churches in Sabah will hold special prayers for about two weeks from tomorrow until Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
“The prayers will be held in three languages — English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese.
They are for the country’s wellbeing,” said Sabah Council of Churches president Bishop Datuk Thomas Tsen Lip Tet.
“We are also praying for the Government and the nation’s well-being, especially following the recent tragedies involving Flights MH370 and MH17.”
Tsen also disassociated the churches from e-mails being circulated to the mainstream and social media which have claimed that they would skip the Merdeka celebrations.
“The emails are not from the Council of Churches and the question of skipping Merdeka celebrations has never arisen,” he said.
Tsen said that since Merdeka Day was on Sunday this year, the congregation would be in church for prayers.
“Everyone will be in church. and this is why we are not able to participate in the Merdeka parade,” he explained.
