KUALA LUMPUR: One of the country’s highly anticipated football matches – the Sultan of Selangor Cup – is back for its 13th edition.
To be held at Shah Alam Stadium on Sept 27, this annual event is expected to draw football fans from Selangor and Singapore.
As a curtain raiser to the big match, the Veterans team from both sides will slug it out at 8pm to prepare thousands of fans for a bigger excitement scheduled at 9pm.
The Sultan of Selangor Cup received a boost yesterday when sponsors came forward to show their commitment to make the event a success.
The Cup’s main sponsor this year is Sime Darby Berhad, which contributed RM300,000 to the event.
Other co-sponsors are Syabas Sdn Bhd, BHL Sdn Bhd, SP Setia Berhad, Permodalan Negri Selangor Berhad, Taliworks Corporation Berhad, MCT Consortium Berhad, Splash Sdn Bhd, Tanjung Balai and Major (Rtd) Datuk Ng Bon Chong.
Star Publications (M) Bhd is the main English media partner.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah received the sponsorships during a high-tea with the sponsors yesterday.
Present were Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, state Speaker Hannah Yeoh, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia Ong Keng Yong and Star Publications group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.
