KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision to name his wife – PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail – as the only nominee for the post of Selangor mentri besar to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is final.
He said he wanted all quarters, including PAS, to accept the decision that was made at the Pakatan Rakyat presidential council meeting on Aug 17.
“I will appeal to them (PAS) to accept the decision of the council as final and ensure that cooperation among the Pakatan component parties is upheld,” he said.
Anwar acknowledged that the mentri besar crisis had shaken the integrity of the opposition pact but was convinced that it would do no harm if everyone respected and complied with the decision of the presidential council.
He also said the decision to nominate his wife to replace Khalid was made after legal consultation.
Anwar said the question of calling for another meeting of the presidential council did not arise because all quarters were bound by its decision.
On the Selangor Sultan’s request that PAS, PKR and DAP propose more than two names each as nominees, he said PKR had complied with the decision of the party and the presidential council.
However, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said it would abide by the Palace’s command and would submit more than two names. — Bernama
