SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has refuted claims made by PKR and DAP that his was the only name submitted to Selangor Sultan after the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

“I think the story has not been properly reported, but there were instances where separate applications (with names) were made by PKR and PAS in 2008 and 2013,” said Khalid.

He told reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting that the names were submitted to the Selangor Palace through individual letters.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua issued a joint statement on Tuesday saying that they would only be submitting PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah’s name in line with the convention set by PKR after the last general election by submitting only one name.

This is being regarded as an act of defiance against Sultan Sharafuddin’s decree ordering all three Pakatan partners to submit more than two names who are deemed suitable and qualified to replace Khalid.

The Sultan also deferred Khalid’s resignation, which the Mentri Besar handed to the Palace on Tuesday, until his replacement has been selected and appointed.

Khalid also reiterated at the press conference that the possibility of dissolving the state assembly did not arise, as the main objective was to change the mentri besar.

“The matter that we want to solve now is the appointment of a new mentri besar,” he added.

Khalid also said it had come to his attention that the Selangor Palace had sent letters to PKR, PAS and DAP requesting to submit more than two names for the selection of the new mentri besar.

He also hoped not to have any say or involvement in the selection and appointment of his successor.

“I hope the Istana will not send me copies of the letters.

“I have a vested interest and should not be a party to the decision-making process,” he added.
