KOTA KINABALU: A police report has been lodged against Padang Serai MP N. Surendran for allegedly implying that the Prime Minister was influencing the courts in fixing dates for the sodomy case of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin lodged a police report at the Kinabantangan district police against Surendran, who purportedly made the allegations in a YouTube video.
"He is seen questioning the Court's decision and implying that the Prime Minister was fixing the dates (of Anwar’s sodomy conviction appeal) in his bid to cast a bad image on him," Bung Mokhtar added.
In his report on Saturday, Bung highlighted the alleged quotes by Surendran, who is Anwar’s lawyer, as saying, "This is an attempt to jail the opposition leader and we hold Najib Tun Razak personally responsible".
"Such statements by Surendran in the video were not only a lie, but also aims to embarrass our Prime Minister, Malaysia and the integrity of our judicial system," Bung Mokthar said, adding that it implied that Najib was abusing his powers.
Bung Mokthar also lodged two reports against two others, namely S. Krishnan and Hassan Karim, who allegedly posted statements on Twitter that the Sultan of Selangor was taking sides with embattled Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
"I want the police to investigate these slanderous postings," he said.
