KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation on a Facebook user who is in the centre of a social media and political storm after allegedly posting his annoyance over the azan call to prayer.
City police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Tajudin Md Isa said 28 reports had been lodged against one Kelvin Yip.
“I am aware that there are figures making statements and calling for action against this person. We will take appropriate action once the investigation is completed,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
Yip allegedly made the post during the Hari Raya season but later deleted it and apologised.
The post, following two other high-profile ones on social media that touched on racial lines, sparked outrage among netizens.
Last month, wedding planner Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin, or better known as Kiki, was filmed hitting an elderly man’s car with a steering lock and shouting abuses at him, including racial slurs, after a minor accident.
Last week, MIC staged a protest against PAS member Ustaz Shahul Hamid after a video of him making fun of Hindu gods and questioning why Muslims were buying curry powder made by Hindus went viral on Facebook.
