SHAH ALAM: Robbers who carted away RM1.7mil worth of copper coils from a factory at Subang High-tech Industrial Park had to abandon half the loot when one of their lorries broke down.
In the 6am incident yesterday, five robbers entered the factory and tied up two security guards before fleeing with large amounts of copper coils.
However, police found one of the container lorries used by the robbers abandoned by the roadside near Sunway Kayangan.
Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said: “We recovered 12 large copper coils from the lorry and are looking for the rest of it.”
On another matter, DCP Abdul Rahim denied talk that a man had slashed seven children in Pandamaran, Klang, a rumour that was widely circulated on the web and through text messages.
“This rumour is not true and we are looking for those behind this irresponsible lie,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.
He also said that such rumours could create unrest among the public.
It is believed that the rumour came about after an incident at a cyber cafe in Pandamaran where 10 men slashed six men from Sabah on Wednesday.
DCP Abdul Rahim said the motive for the slashing was still being investigated.
He denied that the incident was in any way racially or religiously motivated.
