Excited: Children from the orphanage browsing through goodie bags during the breaking of fast event at the Litrak Operations Complex in Bandar Sunway.
PETALING JAYA: Laughter and happy shouts filled the air at the Litrak Operations Complex here as 30 children from the Kediaman Cahaya Kasih home celebrated the Raya spirit with a sumptuous buka puasa spread.
The children, who are mostly orphans, were thrilled by the VIP treatment they received from Litrak – from a shopping spree last week to duit raya and a delicious feast.
After breaking their fast with a spread of daging masak lemak, grilled prawns, Japanese tofu with mushrooms and sweet and sour fish among other dishes, the kids played catch, whooping excitedly as they dashed around the Litrak operational HQ premises.
“Litrak even provided a bus to take us home. We didn’t need to worry about a thing!” said carer Nurul Syazwani Suhaimi, 24.
“It’s great to see their happy faces, especially since we hardly go shopping.”
Earlier in the week, Litrak took the kids for a Hari Raya shopping spree, where each child was given nearly RM300 to buy clothes and toys for the festive season.
“For many of them, this was the first time they went shopping for Raya.
“They were so happy choosing T-shirts and shoes with their favourite cartoon characters,” said Syazwani, adding that Dora the Explorer and Ben 10 were particular favourites among the kids, who range in age from one to 17.
For many of the children, the shoes they bought were the first pair they had ever owned, as they usually wore hand-me-downs.
Litrak CEO Sazally Saidi said it was a thrill to see the kids’ smiling faces.
“It brought me back to my childhood. The kids were so excited!” he said.
Sazally added that Litrak had made a commitment to ease the burden of the less fortunate and to share the spirit of Aidilfitri every year.
Sakinah, 17, said she enjoyed the shopping trip and bought a red baju kurung, blouses and a handbag.
“This will be a Raya to remember,” she said.
