KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated and thanked the Government for its handling of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 tragedy.
The Permatang Pauh MP also called for those responsible for the downing of the plane to be brought to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
"I urge the Government, despite being trapped between the world super powers, to continue pressure and bring those responsible for the attack to justice," he said in his speech to support the Prime Minister's motion for a debate Wednesday on the MH17 tragedy.
Anwar also noted that he backed the Government's decision to engage with rebel leader Alexander Borodai to resolve the situation.
"The weapons used to shoot down flight MH17 were sophisticated, which could be supplied only by Russia or the United States.
"I urge the Government not to be pressured when facing the world superpowers.
Anwar also hoped that the Dutch government would assist Malaysia to expedite the process of bringing back the remains of the passengers and crew of MH17 before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
On a separate matter, he also condemned the escalating violence in Gaza and called for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.
