KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has asked for the Egyptian authorities to open up the Rafah pathway to allow humanitarian efforts to reach Gaza.
Umno welfare bureau chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abd Rahim said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had written a letter making the request to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi yesterday.
Abdul Azeez will be leading a humanitarian mission to Gaza from Aug 6-12.
“The Prime Minister also asked us (Malaysians) to unite to help the Palestinian,” he said on the preparation to Gaza yesterday.
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was present also urged for the immediate opening of the Rafah pathway to enable humanitarian efforts to reach the 1.7 million Palestinians trapped in Gaza.
Mah Sing Group donated RM300,000 to the Gaza mission, while Nestle Malaysia Bhd gave RM50,000 worth of food and beverage packs.
In a statement yesterday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman condemned the continuous attacks by the Israeli military on Gaza and labelled them a crime against humanity.
