PONTIAN: Consumers are getting smarter and are less likely to be taken for a ride by traders who hike up the price of items, especially during festive seasons, said a state executive councillor.
“Government campaigns and awareness programmes have been effective in educating them on the importance of consumer rights,” said Johor Consumerism, Domestic Trade and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.
“Traders, suppliers and distributors in the state have been adhering to the pricing scheme issued by the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry,” he said after visiting the wet market here yesterday.
