Fallout among diesel smugglers

JOHOR BARU: A car salesman involved with an illegal diesel smuggling syndicate was assaulted by three men who demanded RM125,000 from him.

The 33-year-old and his girlfriend were in a hotel room here when the three men met them at around 9am on Saturday.

“They demanded the money from the man for the transaction of some 1.6 million litres of diesel,” said Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh.

“While in the hotel room, the salesman was punched and hit several times on his face and body as he could only produce RM21,000,” he said.

He added that the girlfriend was unharmed in the scuffle.

ACP Sulaiman said the salesman admitted to being involved in an illegal diesel dealing with the three men.

The men had been demanding payment for the transaction although the transferring activity was intercepted by the authorities in Sungai Rengit, Pengerang.

Initially, the salesman handed over the payment for the diesel to his partner who was to pay the three men.

“However, his partner has since disappeared with the money,” said ACP Sulaiman.

“We arrested the three assailants and recovered RM15,000 from them,” he said.

ACP Sulaiman urged those with additional information on the case to come forward to assist with the investigations.

They can contact the police hotline at 07-2212 999 or get in touch with the nearest police station.
