PETALING JAYA: Twitter just wants him back! Air Asia boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has returned to Twitter, three weeks after shocking his followers when he deactivated his account on June 27.

“After much persuasion from twitter and many others, I'm back on Twitter. But will be more thoughtful. Was a good break,” he had tweeted on July 14 at 11.59am.

That tweet was retweeted more than 160 times.

Followers rejoiced and many came up with ‘welcome back’ tweets.

“Good to see your hiatus was only brief, Tony,” said Amit Mandalia ‏@Amit_Mandalia

Rais Husin (@rais husin) urged Fernandes to be himself and keep on realising the dreams of many.

“Stay who you are. You have done well for many to realize their dreams,” he said.

“Great news, Tony. Personally thought it was best due to high amount of plebs that tweet nonsense to you. Welcome back,” said Jeffro ‏@JabHookNQPR

On June 27, Fernandes said he might consider a return to twitter.

One of Fernandes' followers, Danny Gipson @DannyGipson, posted a screenshot of his final five tweets.

“I will be closing down my Twitter account today. As I said wait till QPR get promoted and I reach 50. I may restart dedicated accounts,” and, “Goodbye all. Maybe I return. Been fun. Damn useful. Speak the truth and be brave,” read two of the Queens Park Rangers (QPR) chairman’s final tweets.

QPR was promoted to the Barclays Premier League following the club’s victory over Derby County in the Championship playoff final last month.

Fernandes, the group chief executive officer and director of AirAsia Berhad, capped off his goodbye by saying: “Stand up for what you believe, fight oppression and most importantly, enjoy life. Bye bye all!”

Fernandes’ exit took everyone by surprise.
