LUMUT: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will seek the Government's permission to allow security forces to fire at any intruders encroaching Sabah's waters.
RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the move would prevent intrusion by terrorist groups from the Philippines.
"I think the time has come for the Attorney-General to ponder over this issue which could facilitate security efforts for the country's waters, off the east coast of Sabah," he said.
Abdul Aziz said this after witnessing the handing-over of duties as fleet commander between Vice-Admiral Datuk Mohamad Roslan Mohamad Ramli and retiring Vice-Admiral Datuk Abdul Hadi A. Rashid on Monday.
He was asked to comment on the latest intrusion off Semporna.
In the 11.10pm incident on Saturday, Kpl Abdul Rajah Jamuan, 32, was killed while his colleague, Kons Zakia Aleip, 26, was believed to have been abducted by a group of eight armed men at the Mabul Water Bungalow Resort in Pulau Mabul. - Bernama
