NGOs: Rectify Chinese language teacher shortage

PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia (GBM) has voiced its disappointment with the Education Ministry for not acknowledging the ongoing shortage of Chinese-language teachers in Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (also known as conforming schools) and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan.

The shortage, it claimed, had been going on for three decades. In a statement endorsed by 30 non-governmental organisations, GBM accused the ministry of ignoring the feedback from the Chinese community and instead insisted on posting 51 Chinese language teachers from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris to boarding schools and vocational schools.
