KUALA LUMPUR: New recruits will have to sit for a profile test beginning this month before they are accepted into the force, said the Inspector-General of Police.
The latest batch of 1,900 recruits, said Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, would be subjected to the Malaysian Integrity Test (MIT) developed by the Malaysian Institute of Microelectric System (Mimos).
“The test is meant to calculate a recruit’s inclination on integrity via an algorithm. Through this test, we will know if the person has high, moderate or low integrity,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman here yesterday.
Mimos, he said, had trained nine MIT proctors from the Bukit Aman Counselling and Religious Department to carry out these tests.
“We will increase the number of proctors in the future,” he said.
Police, said Khalid, were also in the midst of discussions with Mimos on the possibility of carrying out the same test on their existing personnel.
“We are studying how we can implement the test for our personnel who are set to be promoted.
“This way, we can profile our serving personnel to find out if they have any tendency towards graft,” he said.
Mimos’ subsidiary Frontier Novatur vice-president Faisal Ahmad said for phase one, the test would be a paper-based psychometric examination.
He said the key element of the
test was to evaluate the integrity of personnel.
“We can assess their inclination based on algorithm calculations once the recruits complete the questions,” he said.
Phase two will involve a more computer-based evaluation, to be developed and introduced later.
He said most psychometric tests had been developed for European and Western markets.
“This why we went to the drawing board and created one that is more appropriate for Asians, particularly Malaysians,” he said.
