Hisham may have just done last task as Acting Transport Minister, says PM

SEPANG: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given a clear sign that a Cabinet reshuffle is around the corner.

When opening the KLIA2 terminal here yesterday, the Prime Minister said attending the function might be Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s last performance as Acting Transport Minister.

He also paid tribute to Hishammuddin for ensuring the problem-plagued terminal got completed.

“I must congratulate Datuk (Seri) Hishammuddin,” he said, adding that “this could be your last official function as Acting Transport Minister.”

It was reported that Najib was considering a major overhaul of his administrative line-up and that the change could involve, besides Hishammuddin, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

A reshuffle will also involve MCA, after the party reversed its decision not to hold government posts earlier, and Gerakan, whose president Datuk Mah Siew Kong won the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31.

Met later, Hishammuddin said it was up to Najib to decide on the date for him to relinquish the Transport Minister’s post.

“I am ready to give up the post,” he said.

“What is important is that (while at the Transport Ministry) we have put a lot of infrastructure in place, so, whoever takes up the post could just continue with the job,” said Hishammuddin.

“The ministry covers many areas that requires a full-time minister,” he said. “However, at the end of the day, it is the Prime Minister’s prerogative to decide the timing.”
