KUALA LUMPUR: Blogger Papagomo is attempting to settle by instalments the RM850,000 award granted to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the Opposition Leader's defamation claim.
Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who was identified by court as Papagomo, said he wants to apply to pay RM100 per month to Anwar in order to settle the award.
"I have ask High Court Judicial Commissioner Rosilah Yop to allow me to pay in instalments and she asked me to discuss with the plaintiff (Anwar)," he said on Friday.
Speaking to reporters here, Wan Muhammad Azri, 31, said that he had sold his shares with an online news portal where he had worked as an editor in order to pay his legal fees.
"I am now a fisherman only," the father of three said, adding that he would be defending all of his own cases.
He said his appeal against the court judgment has been set for a case management before a Court of Appeal registrar on June 24.
JC Rosilah dismissed an application by Papagomo to stay her judgment ordering him to pay RM850,000 to Anwar and issued an injunction against him from further defaming the Opposition Leader.
Anwar's lawyer Shahid Adli said that JC Rosilah held in chambers that there was no special circumstances to grant him a stay against her judgment.
Shahid said the court had also ordered Papagomo to pay RM5,000 in costs.
On Feb 28, Anwar had been awarded RM850,000 in a suit against Papagomo over postings in the form of words and images implicating him with another man.
JC Rosilah held that Papagomo abused the use of the Internet, adding that a fair and reasonable amount of damages should be given to compensate Anwar.
The judicial commissioner awarded RM800,000 in damages and RM50,000 in costs to Anwar after hearing a full trial.
In his suit filed on March 21 last year, Anwar said the blogger had implied that he was engaged in indecent acts with the man.
The Permatang Pauh MP said the blogger had connected his blog to a weblink containing a series of images, adding that the words implied that he was a person not fit to hold public office and was an immoral and irresponsible leader.
