Selangor state assembly: Barisan withdraws motion to discuss hudud

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Barisan Nasional has withdrawn a motion to debate the possibility of implementing hudud law in the state.

Opposition leader Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias said in a statement that the Selangor BN reps had discussed the issue on Thursday and decided to withdraw it.

"Hudud is a PAS main agenda to seize power and to establish an 'Islamic country'.

"It is PAS' responsibility to take any step towards the implementation of hudud in the state, including any feasibility studies towards its implementation," he said.

He added that although they had withdrawn the motion, it should serve as a "wake-up call" to PAS with regards to their promises to implement hudud law.

Mohd Shamsudin added the question of PAS not having a majority in Selangor is not relevant as it could get support from Umno and PKR assemblymen.

"There are 15 seats held by PAS, 12 seats by Umno and 10 PKR seats held by Muslim representatives, making it a total of 37. This is enough to initiate the implementation of hudud in Selangor.

"If PAS does not take any significant step towards the implementation of hudud after this, they have been hypocritical and therefore lying to the voters," he said.

Selangor assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh had said that the motion, which was submitted by Selangor BN on May 30, would be debated during the current sitting.
